Annavaram
Located about
124 kms. from the city on the banks of the river Pampa, Satyanarayana Swamy temple in Annavaram of East Godavari
district is one of the most popular temples in north coastal Andhra and the
adjoining districts in Orissa State. Located atop the Ratnagiri Hill, the temple
resembles a chariot on four wheels. A tank that supplies drinking water to
Annavaram is converted into a picnic spot during the winter months. The annual
temple festival is in May and lakhs of devotees throng the small town. The
temple is about 3 km from Annavaram town but is situated right on the Chennai
Kolkata National Highway No.5. It has its own accommodation facility to accommodate pilgrims
and according to an estimate, at least a lakh "vratams" are performed at the
temple every year by devotees.
Annavaram is just a two-hour train journey from Vizag.
How to reach:
Annavaram railway station is one the Vijayawada-Kolkata mainline.
The place is 120 km from Vizag.
Where to stay:
Tuni is just a few kilometers away and has modest lodging
facility. The temple has accommodation facilities that are well maintained.
